ALL ABOUT SUNSCREEN

WHY WEAR SUNSCREEN EVERYDAY?

Summer is the season of vacations and trips, but it’s also the season of hot weather. Let’s learn more about our “summer’s bestfriend”.

SUNSCREEN – BEST PROTECTION FOR OUR SKIN

Everyone has heard of sunscreen. But do you really understand and use it properly? Let’s go over a few concepts below:

  1. WHY DO WE HAVE TO WEAR SUNSCREEN?

The sun is a source of light and also an energy source that provides many benefits to life on Earth. However, the sun also includes very harmful ultraviolet rays, including UVA, UVB and UVC rays. In which, UVC rays will be reflected almost completely by the ozone layer. So it can be said that when ultraviolet rays reach the ground, they are just UVA and UVB.

The harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays to our skin can be mentioned as: darkening, aging, and more serious, skin cancer. It is worth noting that 90% of ultraviolet rays can penetrate walls, glass, curtains, … This is the reason why dermatologists recommend using sunscreen 365 days a year even inside home.

2.  RELATED INDICATORS
• SPF (Sun Protection Factor)
This is an index measuring resistance to sunburn caused by UVB rays. This index indicates how long the sunscreen will optimally protect the skin from UVB, and is usually expressed with the numbers followed. This number will represent the number of minutes the cream is active on the skin. Usually 1 SPF is equivalent to 10 minutes of effect. Thus, if a sunscreen has SPF 50 written, this means that the cream will have anti-UVB effects for 500 minutes per use.
• PA (Protection Grade of UVA)
PA and the plus show the ability to filter UVA rays according to each level:
PA + can resist UVA rays at about 40 to 50%.
PA ++ is more resistant to UVA rays at about 60 to 70%.
PA +++ can resist UVA rays relatively better than the other 2 PA at about 90%.
PA ++++ is very resistant to UVA rays, about 95%.

3.  CLASSIFICATION

Currently on the market there are many different types of sunscreen. Classified by ingredients, there are 3 types which are physical sunscreens, chemical sunscreens and mixed sunscreens. Classified by texture, there will be countless different textures, but the most common will be in the form of cream (or lotion), liquid (milk), spray and bar/stick.
